With the COVID-19 pandemic completely changing our way of living over the past 15 months, there have been a lot of challenges for photographers. Perhaps the biggest one being the travel restrictions that forced many photographers to either stay at home or stay local. This has been a crushing blow to photographers of all kinds – From travel and landscape photographers to those who work with far-reaching clients. The inability to move from place to place has left us photographers lacking in our sense of freedom, our income, and our creativity. But with the huge changes in our ways of living have come ways to adapt and overcome the common problems. Here are our three ways of how to do photography during a pandemic.
At Home
The first way is to do as your government has probably advised you at some point over the past year and stay at home. While this might not sound like the most attractive prospect, there is much creativity waiting for life in every person’s home. Because we become so used to living in our houses, we sometimes stop seeing the beauty of what is right infront of us. But now is the perfect time to take a step back and realise the moments in your home that can be captured and shared. It could be a breakfast you have every Sunday, or how the light seeps through your window in the morning, or a family member whose face portrays so many stories. Have a think about what makes your home unique and why you love it (or even hate it), then get your camera out and tell the world through your photos.
Learning Through Youtube
The second way of taking photos during a pandemic is to grab your phone or computer and watch some Youtube videos. Pretty much all great art is inspired by something else. So get searching for content that will inspire you or give you ideas of what to shoot. This might be something you can go out and capture right away or it could be an idea that you can plan to do in the long term when COVID restrictions allow you to. Either way, watching Youtube videos can be a great way to stimulate your creativity. If you are looking for some great photography Youtubers to get you started, have a read of our article here.
Walks
The third and final method to help your photography during a pandemic is to go for a walk. Everybody at some point over the past year has been sick of being stuck in their house and went out for a walk outside. So why not bring your camera along for the ride? You never know what you will see when you go out and there will always be something interesting just begging to be captured.
