Choosing your first camera can be difficult, especially if you are unaware of what functions and features that you will require. However, we are here to help! This article will outline a camera that is very close to my heart as it was the first camera that I have ever owned. The Canon EOS 1300D is a relatively inexpensive DSLR option that offers some excellent features to assist beginner and amateur photographers. In this article, we have discussed some of the reasons that we believe the Canon 1300D should be considered for your first camera.
Easy to Use
Canon have designed the 1300D as an entry-level camera so have ensured that it is easy for users to operate. There are many designated pre-set modes that users can select that will help the camera adjust to the environment. These modes include.
- Scene Intelligent Mode – A mode in which the camera automatically decides factors such as brightness, flash, and colour tone in accordance with the environment. This is a great mode for beginners to utilise as they may be unaware of the settings they require to take good shots.
- Portrait – For those looking to take portrait shots there is a dedicated mode. For portrait shots, the 1300D will automatically blur backgrounds so that the subject stands out. The camera also smooths skin tone and hair to ensure a clear photo can be taken.
- Landscape – Similarly to portrait mode, landscape mode blurs objects. But instead of blurring the background to shots, landscape blurs other objects so that the background stands out. It also sharpens aspects of the background to maximise the quality of your photo.
Wi-Fi Function
Potentially our favorite function of the Canon 1300D is its Wi-Fi capabilities. For a digital camera, the 1300D is extremely efficient and allows you to download photos directly to your phone in minutes. By simply downloading the Canon Connect app you will then be able to connect your phone with the 1300D to view, download, or even take photos. I personally have found this feature extremely useful as you are able to download photos immediately when out and about, allowing you to preview how the photos have turned out and if changes are required. The Wi-Fi function allows the camera to connect to any laptop or tablet where images can be downloaded in an instant.
Size
The 1300D is quite a light camera which makes it extremely easy to carry at all times. A someone who travels often, I usually store my camera inside a lightweight camera bag within my larger backpack. The majority of my travels have revolved around scenic environments such as national parks and I have found the Canon 1300D to be more than efficient to capture beautiful sights. It switches on extremely quickly so can be used when you have a spontaneous urge to capture a moment.
Battery and Memory
To charge the 1300D you simply remove the battery from the camera and place it in the charging station plug that is provided with the product. I have found that I only need to charge the camera every 4/5 days (when using it daily) as the battery life is excellent. In terms of memory, the camera utilises an SD card slot so you can dd the memory card size of preference. Over the past few years, I have been using 64GB sim cards which have been able to store over 3000 photos per card.
Lenses/Accessories
The Canon 1300D has the ability to operate with almost any Canon or Ultimax lens attached, making it an extremely versatile camera. When purchasing the 1300D, I decided to buy the Ultimax Wide Angle and Telephoto lenses. I chose these lenses as I read information online and believed that they would best suit the images I wished to capture.
