This series of articles will look at some of the best camera phones available on Amazon and compare them to cameras of a similar price to let you decide if the camera on your phone is good enough. In this article, we will compare the Panasonic LUMIX FZ82 with the Huawei P40.
Panasonic LUMIX FZ82
The Panasonic LUMIX FZ82 is a digital bridge camera that is on the market at an extremely reasonable price. Accompanied by lenses, the FZ82 has a 60x zoom ability and a focal length of 35 millimetres full frame. These settings will assist in ensuring that you get auto-focus when utilising the wide-angle or telephoto modes of the camera. The camera also comes with an aperture of F 2.8, meaning that you will be able to take nice, clear shots in low-light environments. The LUMIX FZ82 will shoot extremely clear shots up to about 200m with its in-built zoom, but for further distances, you may notice the quality beginning to deteriorate – unless you equip the camera with a suitable external lens.
Various features are included with this camera but we particularly like the stop-motion and timelapse options that are available. These features are rare for a camera in this price range, so we are impressed that Panasonic has included them. The camera also has a great mode for beginner photographers called the ‘AI plus mode’. This mode has pre-set settings that will automatically adjust to best suit the environment that you are trying to capture. The camera will also highlight which mode that it has automatically selected so that you can change if you are not satisfied which the images it is producing.
Finally, for video purposes, the Panasonic LUMIX FZ82 can shoot some pretty good resolution videos but may lack stabilisation in some cases. To combat this, we recommend that you invest in a tripod that will keep your camera steady when shooting videos and require the camera to remain still. Overall, a great camera for the price you will pay.
Huawei P40
Huawei has become one of the largest smartphone brands on the market and mainly due to the popularity of the cameras that their products provide. The P40 is no different and has a very advanced camera ability for a smartphone. With a 32-megapixel front-facing camera and an ultrawide back camera setup. Many have described the Huawei P40 as ‘a camera with a smartphone attached’ due to the technical advancement of the phone.
The 1X, 5X, and 10X zoom options on the P40 mean that the back-cameras that the phone has will provide more detail and sharpness than most smartphones on the market. Furthermore, the front-facing camera has automatic filters to ensure you capture the beautiful selfies that you wish to take, but also provides incredible detail when these settings are disabled. The front camera also allows 4k video footage which is more than adequate for those wishing to use their phone for vlogging or video call purposes.
Similarly, to the LUMIX FZ82, the Huawei P40 has AI features that assist the user by automatically switching to settings that the camera believes will best suit the environment. This can be extremely useful for those hoping to take spontaneous snaps when out of their everyday lives. The phone also really stands out from its competition in low light conditions as it has a dedicated ‘night mode’ that helps users to capture high-quality photos in even the darkest of spaces. The night mode on the P40 is effective due to the upgrades that Huawei has made in their white-balance sensor – meaning that users’ photos will have clear, realistic colours.
Comparison and Decision
The products covered in this article are both great options for those who require and usable and accessible camera. The Panasonic LUMIX FZ82 main features that impressed us were the timelapse and stop-motion modes as many digital cameras of a similar price will fail to provide such features. For those beginner and amateur photographers, these modes can be extremely fun and interesting to use and learn about. On the other hand, the Huawei P40 has been easily one of the most impressive smartphones we have covered as Huawei have clearly spent a lot of time developing their camera features. We particularly like the AI feature as it will save users time and the pre-set filters on the front camera, allowing users to take great selfies without having to edit after.
Overall, we have two great products, and we would recommend both for those looking for a first purchase. However, there must be a winner and this battle goes to…the… Huawei P40. I know right- a camera getting beat on a camera website. The truth is the Panasonic LUMIX FZ is an excellent camera but the Huawei P40 was just far too impressive in comparison to the previous smartphones that we have looked at.
