Sharing Images From Life: Exploring Yosemite

Share your discovery, spread the love

This post will be slightly different from the content that is usually posted on our site. It will be part of a mini-series where each of the writers here at SNAPSHOT shares an image from our lives. We have each chosen a photo that we have taken that has a special meaning. We will each share the story behind the images that we have selected.

What is the Image?

The image that I have selected features Vernal Fall, a waterfall situated in Yosemite National Park, California. The day I visited the waterfall we were extremely fortunate with the weather as the warm conditions combined with the force of the waterfall to produce a beautiful rainbow at the bottom. This trip was spontaneous, and I had no idea what to expect of the waterfall but the image I managed to capture will forever amaze me. Looking back, I wish that I had taken more photos (preferably with me in one!) as I must have only taken about 10-15 images of this stunning location.

When was the image taken?

This image was taken in August 2018 when I was travelling the West coast of the USA. I had worked at a summer camp in Massachusetts throughout June and July with a group of my friends, so we decided to use our remaining few weeks in America to travel. Yosemite was the first of 4 national parks that we were able to visit and the memories from my time there are easily the most prominent of my entire travelling experience.

How was the image taken?

One of the reasons that I have such love for this image is because it was one of the first photos that I ever took on my camera. Before travelling to the US, I purchased my first professional camera, the Canon EOS 1300D. I had admired photography for a few years but had only ever used my smartphone for taking photos until this trip. Using the 1300D, I quickly learned the difference in quality that professional digital cameras offer as I managed to capture incredible photos that would not have been possible using my smartphone. The photos that I captured during my time in the US really kickstarted my passion for photography and I have not been abroad without my camera since.

Why is this image important?

As mentioned, this image holds a special place in my heart as it was the first amazing photo that I captured on my camera. By ‘amazing’, I mean that it is the first photo that I looked back at and thought ‘wow, I can’t believe I took that’. As someone who has viewed and loved many spectacular landscape photos over the year, I felt genuinely proud that I had managed to take such an incredible shot that would not look out of place on a professional photographer’s portfolio. In addition, this photo brings back some of my best-ever memories as the summer we spent travelling was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

And finally…. the image

The stunning Vernal Fall in all its glory.
