As a beginner or someone who has never taken photography seriously before, finding a first camera can be difficult. Many are extremely expensive which makes it hard to justify investing in something that you are not experienced in. Here at Snapshot, we understand that. So, we have made a short list of some of our favourite cameras for those with a budget that will help you make a kickstart to your photography career. We have only discussed a few main details of each camera, but we recommend that you read the specs in more detail on Amazon before deciding what camera is perfect for you.
Panasonic LUMIX G100
The Panasonic G100 is a hybrid camera designed primarily for vloggers. The G100 is a small, compact digital camera that includes a lens kit and a high-quality touchscreen display. The camera also has 4 customisable function options which allows users to set up their camera as they desire, however, it lacks a button for auto-focus which is a common feature on more professional cameras. In terms of audio, the Panasonic G100 utilises a new system that uses multiple microphones around the camera that point in different directions so that it can automatically detect you and use the right microphone for the situation. Another great feature of this camera is its eye track function, automatically following the user’s movements when utilising the vlogging feature of the camera.
Canon Powershot G7 X MARK II
The Canon G7 X is an extremely digital camera mainly due to its size and reliability. This camera has a range of specs, it has a 20.1-megapixel sensor which is very good for photos and video and it has a 24 of 100 zoom range lens built right in that has an f-stop of 1.8 – basically that translates to it having very good low-light performance. One other stand-out feature of the G7 X is the colour performance as Canon has put a lot of effort into improving their technology so that their products can work flawlessly with a range of skin tones. Finally, it is worth mentioning that this camera has a touchscreen that users can touch to get autofocus on the subject they wish to capture.
Sony A6000 Mirrorless
The Sony A6000 is a slightly older option than the other cameras in this article but it makes our list due to its popularity and reliability over the years. Released in 2014, the A6000 remains highly popular because it still shoots everything at a very high megabit rate as it shoots everything for video at 15 megabits per second even if you are shooting 60 frames per second, so you are able to capture a very nice image easily. Another reason the Sony A6000 is rated highly is due to its spectacular autofocus capabilities making it a great option for beginner and amateur photographers. The camera is small enough to fit in your pocket, has been found to have solid low-light performance, and has decent built-in stabilisation to ensure that you will be capturing high-quality products. There are a plethora of great reviews on the Sony A6000 that you can find on YouTube that we recommend watching to find out more about this camera.
GoPro Hero 9
The GoPro Hero 9 is different from the other cameras on this list as GoPro is well-known for being a primarily video device. However, as the GoPro fits the price range of this article, we believe it offers great value-for-money as it is a product that has different possibilities to the others that have been selected. The Hero 9 can shoot footage in 5k resolution which is superior to the majority of DSLR cameras within this price range and features two screens which is an improvement from previous GoPro products. With other new features such as Horizon levelling, Hyper Smooth 3.0, and a variety of new modes. The GoPro Hero 9 is a great option for those who wish to start photography for leisurely purposes and or those who wish to capture their travelling/adventuristic lifestyle in high-quality. Although you may not have considered the GoPro when buying a camera, we recommend having a detailed look at the Hero 9 as it is surprisingly brilliant.
Nikon D3500
The Nikon D3500 is a digital camera with the capabilities to capture both great images and high-quality videos. Similar to the other camera options in this article, the D3500 has functions such as autofocus, interchangeable lenses, and built-in stabilisation. Nevertheless, Nikon has added unique features to the D3500 to ensure that the camera can compete with other DSLRs on the market. One feature which we particularly like is the overall structure of the camera as Nikon has designed every aspect from shutter to grip with the highest quality possible. This camera will be extremely reliable and can last for years to come. For those looking to invest in a camera that will be reliable for years, it is definitely the standout option for this price range.
