Over the last year, TikTok has become one of the most popular social media platforms in the world. One of the reasons for its popularity is that it allows users to share their videos globally due to its advanced algorithms. If you can upload good-quality content, then chances are that you could soon be sharing your videos with thousands of people from across the world. To help you make good videos, we have compiled a list of 5 of our favourite photography TikTok trends that you can try at home. So, get your camera out, and become TikTok famous!
1. Creative Hair Flip
This photography trick is really simple and has a number of variations so that you can put your own unique twist when trying it. As seen in the video below, it usually features some type of colourful powder/lights being placed in your subject’s hair. Then by taking numerous shots or by utilising a time-lapse, you will be able to capture a really creative shot that is full of colour. We do however recommend that you pick your powder carefully so that no one is losing hair for the purpose of your photos (unless that is a risk you are willing to take!).
2. Smoke Bomb Photoshoot
Despite this trend reaching its peak of popularity in 2020, it is still worth trying if you have not yet attempted it. It is also worth mentioning that you must be old enough to purchase smoke bombs for the photoshoot and know how to use them safely! Nevertheless, using smoke bombs during photoshoots can add another dimension to your photos. It can help bring an average photo to life by adding colour and energy to your subject or background. For those considering trying this trend, we recommend that you first view some popular TikToks that utilise smoke bombs to gain some inspiration.
3. Filling the Umbrella
This trend is a personal favourite on the list. Mainly because it is extremely easy to do and gives you the opportunity to be creative and add your own personal touch to the trend. As seen in the video below, the common tactic is to fill your subject’s umbrella with something soft (so we don’t injure them) and then take snaps as they release the falling object over their head. Many popular TikToks have featured objects such as leaves or confetti, but we suggest that you use your own imaginations to liven the photo up. The photos that this trend has produced are extremely impressive and we hope to see many of you giving it a try.
4. Pillow or Cloud?
Another simple trend that you can easily do at home. This trend may not be as exciting as some of the others, but it still produces some pretty amazing images. To try this trend, you will require a pillow that has some sort of white fluff inside which you will carefully remove. You will then use the fluff during your shoots to make it seem like the clouds are extremely low and extremely close to your subject. You may need to do a slight bit of editing, but you should be able to achieve photos similar to the video below.
5. Flowers in the Bathtub
Finally, we have the classic flowers in the bath photoshoot. Sounds ridiculous right? We thought so too until we saw some of the incredible photos that this TikTok trend has produced. By placing a dew beautiful flower heads in your bathwater and politely asking your subject to lie in between, you will be able to capture photos that seem like you have ventured to an exotic location. Some photographers have also utilised colour dyes or milk to change the colour of their water, We look forward to seeing the creative twist that you add to this trend.
These trends are just some of our favorites, but the possibilities are truly endless. Inspiration can be found anywhere when it comes to photography, so we recommend that you be as creative as possible as that is when you will achieve the best results. We hope that when you become a TikTok sensation with your photography skills that you come back and thank us for our amazing advice.
