I don’t know if it’s just me, but with the Youtube algorithms these days I find it hard to get out of my little bubble of Youtubers that I watch to discover new channels. When I open the Youtube app, it recommends all those channels I usually watch. Even if I search for topics such as ‘landscape photography’ it is more often than not the same channels that I already engage with that come up first in the search results. While this has its uses, I find it very frustrating when I want to discover new Youtubers I haven’t watched before. Anyway, rant over. If you find that you have been watching the same old photography channels and need to freshen it up, this blog is hopefully just what you’re after. Without further ado, here are the 4 great photography Youtubers you might not have heard of!
Cody and Victoria (previously CodyBlue)
Previously a solo channel under the name of CodyBlue, Cody recently updated his channel name to include his fiancé, who often features in his videos. Cody and Victoria describe themselves as ‘filmmakers, photographers, and outdoors enthusiasts living the mountain life’ and that’s exactly what you get in their videos. What’s unique about this channel is the location. You get a front row seat to explore the gorgeous Lake Tahoe over in the United States. Cody often speaks about his favourite cameras and lenses, and in particular his love for the Sony A6000, which is currently a very affordable and good value for money option for those starting out in photography, even up to seasoned veterans. Overall, Cody and Victoria is a great channel that helps to bridge the gap between beginners and intermediates/pros by being so accessible and helpful in his camera tips.
Evan Ranft
Evan is a professional photographer from Atlanta, Georgia, and has a tonne of varied photography content on his Youtube channel. Evan has worked with some impressive clients such as Coca Cola, NBA and Budweiser, showing that he is trusted to be creative whilst having the maturity to stay within the required brief. Evan takes his viewers behind the scenes in some of his work for clients where we get invaluable insight into what it’s really like to be a professional photographer. What really got me interested in his channel however was the videos where he walks through the streets of America whilst snapping up some cracking photos. What really stands out is how he shows us the photos that didn’t quite work out, helping us to understand how to improve our images and letting us realise that even the professionals will take plenty of duds.
Mark Denney
In a digital world where content creators seem obsessed with clickbait and hyper-energetic video, Mark is a breath of fresh air (quite literally) as he manages to engage the viewer through simple videos and regular old conversation. Alright, yes he may use clickbait titles too, but watch one of his videos for 30 seconds and you’ll soon notice how his calming nature draws you in, in a way that other Youtubers just don’t. And yet his content is never boring. He combines his calming nature with beautiful landscapes that surround him on his ventures outside. Equally as impressive are Mark’s editing videos where he gives us really useful Lightroom tips and tricks on how to really improve our end product.
Manny Ortiz
Manny is the man to go to when you want the latest cameras, lenses and accessories reviewed in a practical way. Manny often photographs professional models which gives us insight into the collaborations required to be a professional photographer. Manny has an extensive back catalogue of lens, camera and accessory reviews so if you’re looking for proper advice, look no further.
